Now thePhilistines lived in Gaza, and when they heard that Samson had come,they shut the gates of the city, and watched by them all night, to take himas he should go out again. They said, in the morning we shall kill him.But in the middle of the night, he rose up and came to the gates, and whenhe found them shut, he dragged up the two posts to which the gates werefastened, and took the posts, and the two great gates, and the bar which wentacross them on the inside, to keep them shut, and put them all upon hisshoulders, and carried them a good way off to the top of a hill. Samson was a Nazarite: persons who were Nazarites were commanded notto cut their hair. Samsons hair had never been cut, and had grown thick andlong.
